Becoming A Light Sleeper

Lost at The End: critical analysis

is not a wise staid, but a small (and sometimes ironic) critical discourse on all seasons of Lost taken individually but a careful look at the overall design of the series.

While waiting for the next two essays ("The Lost Film" and "Cuse & Lindelof: disciples of Stephen King") that I hope to publish as soon as I leave you with this thoughtful article for the summer:

FIRST SEASON

E 'the beginning of the greatest adventure that television has ever seen. The Pilot is a formidable and very exciting double episode. Lays the foundation for many interesting questions, from the right dose of mystery and presents fairly convincingly that many people will learn about during the season. The first barrels are

Walkabout and The White Rabbit . Are outlined in a wonderful way the characters of Locke and Jack and their dichotomy that comes to the end. Two episodes for the general funds of the series.

In the rest of the season there are parts good, some bad and some more successful. You can not talk about filler because every episode introduces us for the first time the characters, and this is one of the points in favor of the first season.

The attention to detail is obsessive. The dialogues inspired and very human.

pity that some actors show a number of shortcomings that ... are thankful to have had strong engagement in subsequent years.

elements are certainly central to the plot narrative: the Monster , the Hatch, Ethan and alleged Other, Rousseau and the Black Rock, the polar bear and Numbers.

SECOND SEASON

After a wonderful start and genius. After entry into the scene Desmond resounding ... this is the season of Lost that suffers most of the surf in view of the authors.

Some episodes are shameful and some people feel more the weight and quality.

The question of push-push is as fascinating as the mysterious Dharma Initiative . Despite the various concerns that arise in the face of betting even if not exactly exciting season with the usual dose of mystery, the final cycle is extraordinarily exciting and eventful.

pity that the final cliffhanger Penny has not been developed in depth ... actually .. it is perhaps one of the things you let go a bit 'so ...

And if in the previous season, two episodes of Locke smashed asses, here is missing the masterpiece that puts everyone in agreement.

Among the more positive things: we begin to glimpse the potential of Henry Gale, who will learn to love like Ben Linus.

Die Shannon and Ana Lucia.

THIRD SEASON

The first was Lost it ends here. The initial course of six episodes is something absurdly repulsive to the exclusion of the initial twist (which recalls that of the second season), the 'entrance of the interesting Juliet (which at the end of the tour will be the most compelling female personality), the first Desmond's precognitive signals and sacrifice to allow the escape of Jack Sawyer and Kate.

When Lost returns after the long winter break hit the mark: Not In Portland Flashes Before Your Eyes and are masterpieces of immense, and if the first way gives us finally to understand some fundamental dynamics on the Others, the second shows the immense ability of authors to play with their characters and the entire plot of their series. Flashes is perhaps still the highest point of the series. From script to acting to end with the impeccable direction. Unfortunately

begin taking over the bow filler which, while adding some information here and there, they end up irritating the fans is that the authors themselves ... which I ask ABC to enable them to plan an end.

The results will come, and get the benefit are especially Locke and Juliet, who lord it in one way or another. The first in its desperate search for truth and purpose, makes us enter into the hidden mechanisms of the island and begins a relationship of cinematic wonder Benjiamin with Linus. An amazing duet.

The blonde is actually the only thing that keeps awake the interest in the affairs of the remaining castaways soporific image ... with the necessary exception of Charlie. That fight until the end, with the formidable tenacity and loving company of Desmond (desperately searching for his beloved) to escape from an inevitable fate.

The finish is also a separate discussion. Deserves a lot of words, and many many many it has been said. Jack begins to appreciate the character and how authors with a bet made with a crash, they can change the tables so brilliant and amazing. Hard to imagine anything better ... and in fact I do not think that after they succeeded. The great merit future will be to match several times this standard of quality, making Lindelof, Cuse and their team (enriched by the seventeenth episode onwards by the brilliant Brian K. Vaughan) and superfine authors worthy of the greatest praise.

FOURTH SEASON

The second part of Lost, some would say the second trilogy. The first eight episodes (with the exception of about Juliet) show that the new approach gives the desired results, and the masterpieces of shove one after another without interruption.

sensational New arrivals on the island: Faraday, Miles, Charlotte and Lapidus ... give added value to the whole series. And I thank wholeheartedly the authors for giving us these characters. The episode

symbol of the new course is The Constant . Unattainable love story beyond the limits of space and time. Tears flow and the myth of Lost salt.

I flasforward become the new full-time narrative mechanism, and the results give reason for the authors: the dull flashback the second and third season become only a bad memory.

The bad news is the dramatic and long writers' strike, which interrupts the wonderful story and the fear of seeing a clean break with the season ...

Things are recovered in extremis, but the feeling is that something is inevitably lost. Although the level of incidents remains high: The Shape Of Things To Come (written by the new super couple Vaughan / Goddard) is something wonderful and we deliver the best of Ben and also gives depth to one of the best supporting actors in the series, or Charles Widmore. Cabin Fever feeds the myth of Locke, in an episode from the entire ... and enjoy the season finale is a concentration of action and memorable scenes. Even if the island moves through the donkey wheel is a choice too courageous to be appreciated in the best ...

Lost begins to lose much of its connotations human drama to welcome with open arms the fantasy and science fiction.

Unfortunately, I am sure that without the strike we had a perfect season.

FIFTH SEASON

For the first time, Lindelof and Cuse are able to design and implement a season from start to finish without any obvious hitches. And the results are excellent: the new mechanism of time travel works fine and also allows you to explore the island's past smoothly. The first seven episodes at the speed of light with an obsessive rhythm that puts a strain on the coronary arteries of the audience ... a race against time takes almost as much as that faced by Sawyer, Locke, Daniel, Miles, Juliet and Jin a part ... and Jack, Ben, Kate and other Sun ... a dichotomy (also visual and artistic, as well as fiction) very exciting. Culminating in the agonizing death of John Locke.

The only one who looks like a fish out of water is no longer Desmond. Definitely poorly managed, although playing a very good job when called upon.

eighth episode in the beat drops ... then you go back to introspection and character .. now all fallen into a very different reality. The storyline set at the time of the Dharma is very interesting - even if it could be better exploited in some places - but there is a subtle feeling that you are stalling waiting for something.

That something is the neutral fuse triggered by Faraday that leads Jack to create the famous Incident . That is also the name of the incredible season finale episode ... gigantic breath-taking throughout his long life. From the dramatic beginning with Jacob and Man In Black, which distorts all the cards on the table making us review all the whole series with different eyes (and I challenge you to find the authors are able to turn inside out a series with so much effect) ... to get to the final moments of pathos ... until the final written the colors reversed.

A season with a thousand items for discussion, thousands of details and a scientific study that adds even more depth to the series.

also seems to me that the quality of acting and technical elements in general have risen exponentially as the beginning.

SIXTH SEASON

season that everyone expected. After nine months of unspeakable pending after a final that left open a thousand possibilities, the authors decided to try to change the tables back and refocus on the original characters.

I flashsideways not convince even a bit '. The dialogues are well kept, but the interest has shifted elsewhere and it's really hard to find someone who has been entranced by this new narrative model. Unfortunately, even the justification for the latest installment manages to remove the taste of shit left by some episodes. The premise of THE X were good (like the whole episode, perhaps the best premiere ever) and Happily Ever After get a bit 'too late to rearrange things.

island Man In Black is the master, and is genuinely three notches better than everyone else. And there seems to be no one to fight it until it arrives Charles Widmore, who does a nice job to make the story more interesting.

missing episodes of bomb previous seasons and the inevitable end comes, leaving unanswered questions and other minor merdifero flavor on the palate (the season for himself, not for quality, excellent, on the last episode). Moreover, the two mythological episodes, though they are well made and with many points of interest, seem too rushed and thrown away .... A pity, because they contain stories that deserved a full season to be told effectively.

The End with this in mind, and with great seasons and heavy behind, still manages to be the best possible final. Although little courageous than some choices of the past (Also recently) in the series.

The latest beats and sequences are creepy and returned to Lost the audiovisual history and our society.

Maybe you could do a little bit better here and there ... but that's fine as well. Nobody is perfect.

Note on: Michael Giacchino, composer exaggerated .. that last season reached peak absurd.
